Objectives£º The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of school age children¡¯s temperament and mother¡¯s sense of competence on parenting stress.
Method£º 214 fifth and sixth grade elementary students from a elementary school in Seoul, and their mothers were involved in this study. The mothers completed parent version JTCI, PSOC, PSI and children completed child version JTCI. To investigate the relationship among each variables, independent t-test, Pearson correlation, stepwise regression analysis were performed.
Results£º 1) Analysis of parent JTCI, PSOC, PSI showed that children¡¯s higher novelty seeking and harm avoidance were positively correlated with PSI, higher reward dependence and persistence were negatively correlated, and PSOC was negitively correlated with PSI. 2) Stepwise regression analysis showed that PSOC and higher persistence were significant predictive variables for parentng stress in boys, and higher novelty and PSOC were predictive variables in girls.
Conclusion£º Schoolage children¡¯s temperament and mother¡¯s parenting sense of competence were associated with parenting stress.
